We’re really pleased to share that our very own Matty Holmes has been featured by the NFRC (National Federation of Roofing Contractors) as part of their Rooftops Careers case study series.
Matty joined Safeseal as a labourer - our very first employee - and has worked his way up into a position where he now runs his own team, holding SSSTS and NVQ Level 3 qualifications.
Matty’s journey is exactly what we mean when we talk about building careers in-house. He’s progressed through structured training, hands-on experience and ongoing mentorship, and he’s now trusted with real responsibility - including currently managing a 100-property social housing re-roof project, leading teams on site and coordinating day-to-day operations to keep works safe, efficient and to a high standard.
One of the reasons Matty’s been recognised is the way he helps bring others with him. The case study highlights how he’s supported the progression of multiple labourers, and how his core gang includes two second men, alongside other labourers across projects.
It also mentions the consistent positive feedback he receives, including five-star Google reviews, and the professionalism and approachable manner clients value.
Matty is proactive with professional development - he’s often the first to volunteer for training and keeps his certifications up to date. While he holds a Bauder card, his main specialism is pitched roofing, and being confident across both pitched and flat systems is noted as uncommon at his level.
As a business, we’re passionate about changing the narrative around roofing - showing that this can be a skilled, professional and rewarding long-term career when the right training, standards and progression routes are in place.
A big well done, Matty - we’re proud of you.
